INGREDIENTS
Polypodium Leucotomos Extract: Extracts from this fern have significant antioxidant properties and can reduce the damaging effects of light on our DNA and cells. There is evidence for this component in improving both melasma as well as improving the response of vitiligo patients to light and other therapies.
Ginkgo Biloba: The ancient tree has been in Chinese traditional medicine since before Western cultures existed. Oxidative stress is known to play a role in pigmentation disorders such as vitiligo and melasma. Extracts from the leaf of the ginkgo tree possess strong natural antioxidants. There are small studies showing improvement of patients with vitiligo taking doses found in our formula (Clin Exp Dermatol. 2003 May;28(3):285-7.)
Alpha Lipoic Acid: This naturally occurring antioxidant is essential within our cells for aerobic metabolism. It is a cofactor for several key enzymatic reactions within our bodies and serves to catch and hold the oxygen free radicals during these reactions. It is because of this that we regard alpha lipoic acid as an essential and potent antioxidant.
Ascorbic Acid: Vitamin C is essential for healthy collagen formation, essential in the repair of tissues, and is important for immune function. It also functions as a potent antioxidant.
Vitamin E: Serves as a potent anti-oxidant in our bodies. Patients taking vitamin E supplementation have been found to be more likely to restore pigmentation with the help of UV light.
Supplementation with a combination of alpha lipoic acid, ascorbic acid and vitamin E has been shown to significantly improve results in patients undergoing light therapy for vitiligo (Clin Exp Dermatol. 2007 Nov;32(6):631-6.)
